Avoid Jail Time This July 4th!

33rd Street Bail Bonds wishes you a very Happy 4th of July! With the long holiday weekend just around the corner our bail bondsman at 33rd Street Bail Bonds want you to be safe!

America’s birthday is usually celebrated with cookouts, trips to the beach, boating, swim parties, and of course fireworks. All of these events are fun but can end up being dangerous or even lead to jail time.

33rd Street Bail Bonds offers tips on staying safe and staying out of jail this 4th of July.

Barbecue and the 4th of July go hand in hand. Grilling outside is one of the joys of summer. Stay safe by following these tips:
•Always supervise the grill when it is being used.
•Keep the grill out in the open.
•Never grill indoors.
•Keep kids and pets far away from the grill.

Both trips to the beach and a day at the pool involve water. Swimming is a great way to beat the heat and enjoy the holiday. Boating adds another way to enjoy the water over the holiday. Tips for being in and around the water include:
•Always swim with a buddy. Never swim alone!
•Always watch children when they are in or near the water.
•If a person can’t swim, then have them wear a Coast Guard approved lifejacket. Lifejackets are a good idea when boating.
•Watch the weather! If a storm is coming in leave the water and head towards the indoors – Florida is the lightening capital!
•Watch for rip currents when at the beach and swim by the lifeguard tower.
•Never mix alcohol with boating or swimming. Boat and swim sober.
•Wear sunscreen and drink plenty of water.

No 4th of July celebration is complete without fireworks.

We recommend leaving fireworks up to the professionals. In Florida, the only legal fireworks for the average Joe include sparklers, fountains, snakes, and glow worms. Anything that explodes or flies off of the ground is illegal in Florida. This includes Roman candles and cherry bombs. While you can purchase various types of fireworks it is illegal to do so. Oftentimes, a store or vendor will ask you to sign a waiver before purchasing fireworks. This waiver states that the user is purchasing the fireworks to use on their farm or fish hatchery in order to scare off animals. This waiver protects the store.

When you purchase fireworks for your own firework display then you are breaking the law.

In Florida, you can be charged with a misdemeanor of the first degree. If you are convicted then you could have to pay up to $1,000 in fines, court costs, and serve up to a year in jail.

Besides fireworks, celebratory gunfire is another common way that people celebrate the holiday. Celebratory gunfire is where a person shoots a firearm in the air to celebrate an occasion or holiday. However, this is a very dangerous and an illegal way to celebrate. There have been cases where people have been injured or killed from stray bullets. Remember that what goes up must come down. If a person is caught firing a gun into the air they could face numerous charges including improper exhibition of a firearm or involuntary manslaughter.

Alcohol often leads to jail time.

A person who is tipsy or drunk has diminished capacity to make rational decisions. Driving a vehicle while under the influence (DUI) or boating under the influence (BUI) can lead to an accident, injuries, and even death. A DUI or BUI can lead to fines, penalties on your license, jail time, a revoked license, or even being charged with manslaughter. Don’t take the chance. Just say no to alcohol and driving/boating.
