Orange County Jail in Orlando, Florida

Imagine this scenario, you are relaxing at a local coffee shop when you receive a phone call that your child has been arrested, what do you do? Your emotions will be running the gamut from anger, disbelief, and worry; however, your actions are what will make a difference. As a parent, you need to remain calm and focused.

First, find out the information on where your child is being held. Then, find out the charges and circumstances of the arrest as well as any contact information that you might need. You might have been told that your child has been arrested for theft, assault, vandalism, underage drinking, drug possession or more. You may not be able to contact your child by phone, however, you may be able to do an in person visit at the jail.

While you might be angry at your child for being arrested, now is not the time to express your anger. Instead, you need to be the calm in the storm. Reassure them that you are there for them. Tell them to be respectful and cooperative but that they also have rights. You may want to consider contacting a bail bondsman and/or an attorney.  Your defendant does have the right to be silent and can have an attorney present before answering any questions.

If you need a bail bond agency, please call us at 407-425-3303 to assist you. Posting bail through a bail bond agency allows you to pay a set fee. The fee is set by the state of Florida and is not negotiable. For a bond that is $1,000 or under then your out-of-pocket cost is $100. If the bond is greater than $1,000 then you pay 10% of the bond. It is important that your defendant understands the importance of not posting information on social media with details of their arrest, not talking to friends about the details and events that led up to their arrest, and to behave at work or school so as not to get into any further trouble.  If other people were involved in the incidents leading to the arrest, you may advise that your defendant avoids contact with those people or that crowd of people.
