What is Street Racing?

Street racing is a form of auto racing on public roadways.

Is street racing legal?
NO!!! Street racing is not legal in Orlando, Florida. If you are arrested you could face penalties that include costly fines, you could be arrested, your license could be revoked or your car could be impounded or taken away permanently.

In Florida, street racing is a first-degree felony for first-time offenders. If arrested, you could face up to one year in jail. If you are a repeat offender the penalties are tougher and you could still face jail time.

Street racing can result in a charge of a misdemeanor or felony depending on the number of times you are arrested. Jail time and the fines vary, for example, if you are a first-time offender your fine could be up to $1,000.00. Second-time offenders may be slapped with a fine of up to $4,000.00. Third-time or more offenders the fines are much larger, and defendants may see a longer prison sentence.

Other charges for street racing can include any of the following:
-Obstructing traffic
-Unlawful assembly
-Vehicular homicide
-Reckless driving

Can I buy a Florida Street Racing permit?
No! There is no such thing as a “Florida Street Racing Permit.” On the street this is “permit” is a decal that means absolutely nothing and is for entertainment purposes only.

Is a street takeover legal?
No! A street takeover is the unauthorized commandeering of public roads for illegal or unregulated activities. This is absolutely not legal!

Where can I go to race my car if I can’t race in the street?
There are plenty of places you can go to race your car and stay within the confines of the law. There are plenty of racetracks, drag strips and rally courses around including the following:

Word to the wise…if you find yourself in a mob at a street racing event, leave the scene and go find yourself a new group of friends to hang with. If law enforcement shows up, you may also be included in bust.
