How Are Your Self Defense Skills?
Recently, Kelly Herron, a woman from Seattle, was attacked by a would-be rapist in a public bathroom. Ms. Herron is training for a marathon and took a restroom break never realizing that she would be attacked from behind. She had recently attended a self-defense class and credits that class with giving her the skills she needed to fight back. Because of her actions, the alleged rapist is now in jail on a $750,000 bailbond and faces charges of attempted rape in the second degree and second degree assault. While experts recommend trying to avoid confrontations and escaping, in this instance, Ms. Herron’s choices were to fight or to comply. She chose to fight.
33rd Street Bail Bonds offers tips for self-defense if you find yourself in a dangerous situation:
•Try and escape the situation if you can
•If you can’t escape, you can choose to fight. Be loud, shout “leave me alone”, “back off”, or whatever you choose and push back. Let your attacker know that you are not going to be an easy target
•The most effective body parts to hit are the knee, legs, groin, eyes, nose, ear, and neck.
•Use your elbows, knees, and head to cause damage to your attacker
•Use whatever object is handy to fight with. Throw things, stab the attacker with a key, fling sand in the attacker’s eyes, spray perfume, anything you have, use!
•Fight ferociously. Go crazy. Fight with everything you have and fight dirty. Pull hair, scratch, spit, bite, pinch, yell, slap, punch, stomp, elbow, gouge, and grab. Remember this is a criminal who plans to hurt you.
