Considering Ride Sharing?

Read our safety tips first!

How safe are you when you are using a popular “rideshare” service such as Uber or Lyft? Both Uber and Lyft are convenient, have lower fares than taxis, are easy to use, and have the convenience of charging your credit card for the fare so no money is exchanged. However, there have been incidents where passengers have been killed, assaulted, attacked, robbed, and kidnapped. 33rd Street Bail Bonds wants you to be safe and offers this online guide to staying safe while using a ride share service.

Here are a few tips to protect yourself while using a rideshare service:

•Make sure you confirm both the driver and the car. Ride share services send pictures of the driver along with the license plate number of the car coming to pick you up. Make sure these both match before getting in the car
•Take a picture of the license plate and send it to a family member or friend
•Never sit in the front seat
•Share your estimated time of arrival with a family member or friend. They can track your route and make sure you arrive in a timely manner
•Request the ride through your account so there is a GPS record of the cars location
•Don’t travel alone. Travel with a friend or group of people. Safety in numbers!
•Check your driver’s ratings
•Treat your driver with respect and in a professional manner. Your driver is not your friend. Do not share personal information with them.
•If you are really intoxicated, don’t ride share. Have a friend drive you home. If that isn’t possible, then try and ride with a group. Being intoxicated and in a car with a stranger can end up badly
•Use your common sense and if anything feels “off” then go with your judgement

Our bail bondsmen want you to be safe when using a rideshare service. Uber and Lyft drivers are required to be 21 years of age or older, must have a valid driver’s license with driving experience under their belt, must have car insurance, must meet vehicle requirements, must undergo a background check and have a clean driving record. Neither service requires fingerprint checks.
